Forecast: Clouds, pop-up showers ahead of returning trades

Clouds and showers are expected to increase this afternoon as light winds give way to afternoon sea breezes, which will combine with some remnant moisture for pop-up showers and some brief isolated downpours, especially for leeward and interior sections of Kauai and Oahu. The light overall east-southeast wind flow will spread some volcanic haze statewide from the Big Island.

Trade winds will start to build as soon as this afternoon for the Big Island and Maui, and then spread to the rest of the island chain tonight. Trades could become locally breezy by Tuesday.

Surf will be rather quiet on Sunday, with north shores at 3-5 feet and dropping. We're also looking at a series of small south swells through Tuesday, with a slightly larger swell rising Wednesday and peaking Thursday.
