HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The University of Hawaii softball team's season ended on Saturday with a pair of losses to Long Beach State.
Hours after opening their season series on Friday with an encouraging 3-2 win, the Rainbow Wahine lost both of Saturday's games (2-4, 0-1) to finish below .500 in conference play (8-13) for the second time in three years.
The Wahine ended the season 24-30 overall.
In the day's opener, held at the LBSU Softball Complex, Hawaii jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning before relinquishing it in the fourth thanks to a pair of Long Beach runs. The 'Bows briefly evened things out in the top of the sixth, but LBSU added two more runs in the bottom of the same inning to make the final margin.
Nicole Lopez went 2-4 from the plate for Hawaii. Sarah Muzik batted in the only two Rainbow Wahine runs.
Christina Clermont pitched the entire game for Long Beach, allowing two runs on just six hits.
Alley Perkins scored the only run of the second game for LBSU in the sixth inning.
