Makaha's Medeiros falls to Trinaldo at UFC198

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - To put into perspective the effort put forth by Makaha's Yancy Medeiros during Saturday's bout at UFC198 in Brazil, one need only to look as far as UFC president Dana White's Twitter account.

"Medeiros is not HUMAN!!! Much respect to both guys," White wrote.

Hit by nearly twice as many punches as he landed, Medeiros lost by unanimous decision to Francisco Trinaldo on Saturday but withstood fist after fist, ensuring the fight went all three scheduled rounds.

Trinaldo, fighting in his native Brazil, shocked Medeiros with a straight left with 40 seconds left in the first round, a punch that nearly sent the Hawaii fighter's knee to the mat. He recovered, and managed to withstand several more shots to make it out of the round.

Medeiros, sensing that Trinaldo may have overexerted himself at the end of the first round, became the agressor early in the second. With time winding down, Medeiros missed a spinning back kick but then landed a swinging right hand that sent Trinaldo to the floor. Medeiros landed several more punches before it was Trinaldo's turn to be saved by the horn.

The fighters traded wild blows in the third before Trinaldo took control over the second half of the round.

The judges scored the fight for Trinaldo, 29-26, 30-27, and 30-26.

The loss dropped Medeiros' record as a professional to 12-4 (1 NC).
