Preparations are underway for Fourth of July celebrations on Maui.
This week, the Maui Office of Economic Development announced three grants to community organizations:
- $20,000 for the Lanai Pineapple Festival on July 2
- $10,000 for the 51st annual Makawao parade on July 2
- And $10,000 for Fourth of July celebrations in Lahaina
The grants will help with marketing efforts, preparations, and security.
The Makawao Fourth of July Parade wraps up a four-day celebration in the community, which will features rodeo exhibitions, entertainment and food.

The Lahaina Fourth of July Celebration features food, shopping, entertainment, and a big fireworks display. Those interested in helping to cover the costs of the fireworks display, which can cost upwards of $50,000, should contact the Lahaina Town Action committee at 661-4779.
The Lanai Pineapple Festival features crafts, games, food, activities, prizes, entertainment, vendors and a fireworks display to conclude the night.
A portion of the grant will go toward chartering a special late-night return ferry for Maui residents from Manele Harbor to Lahaina Harbor.

Those interested in having a booth at the festival can pick up applications at the Coalition for a Drug Free Lanai (CDFL) or at Okamoto Realty.
