Those who follow volleyball closely here in Hawaii already know he's one of, if not, the best high school player here in the 50th state. Now, according to Volleyball Magazine, Moanalua senior, Austin Matautia, is being recognized as one of the nation's elite as well.
Matautia was ranked the 4th best player *in the country* to come out of the class of 2016. The University of Hawaii signee averaged just over 26 kills per match for Na Menehune during the team's state playoff run. But, despite all his recent successes, Matautia was still surprised by the honor.
"I found out from my friend on a snap chat and he said congrats on making top five. I screen shotted it, and I was actually super excited because I wasn't expecting to be ranked so high. I kind of knew I was going to be on there, because I was on top 25 underclassmen to watch. But I wasn't expecting to be even top ten. It's just exciting." said the Ewa Beach native.
Matautia credits much of his success this season to UH assistant coach, Milan Zarkovic, who is also his club volleyball coach.
