Hitchcock earns BWC Pitcher of the Week honors

IRVINE, Calif.—University of Hawai'i softball pitcher Brittany Hitchcock (Huntington Beach, Calif./Ocean View HS) fired a pair of complete-game conference wins en route to earning Big West Softball Pitcher of the Week accolades.
The sophomore turned in three solid appearances (two starts) as the Rainbow Wahine won the series over Cal Poly, 2-1. She allowed two runs (one earned) on seven hits in a 3-2 victory in Friday's opener. Hitchcock did not walk a batter and struck out five.
A strong one-inning relief effort in game two gave UH a chance for a late game comeback, but UH fell 4-3 to the Mustangs.  She gave up a hit and struck out one in the brief appearance.
Hitchcock's best effort was a dominant one in the series finale and UH's Senior Day game as the 'Bows picked up its second walk-off win in as many days, eking out a 1-0 win in eight innings. Hitchcock went the distance, surrendering just two hits with no walks and three strikeouts. She flirted with a perfect game through the first 5-2/3 innings, retiring the first 17 consecutive batters of the game. After sitting down the final six-straight hitters, she faced just two batters over the minimum in the game. For the 21st time this season, Hitchcock did not allow a walk during her time in the circle. Hitchcock now has four shutouts to her credit this season.
It is the second time that Hitchcock has earned Big West Pitcher of the Week honors. Last season as a freshman, she was named Pitcher of the Week on March 9, 2015. She is the third Rainbow Wahine to be recognized by the conference with the weekly honor. Kanani Aina Cabrales  was named BWC Pitcher of the Week on Feb.15 while Tayana Mata was selected Player of the Week on Apr. 18.

The Rainbow Wahine heads to California to take on Long Beach State in its final series of the season this week. The two teams will square off in a single game on Friday, May 13 at 3:00 p.m. PT and end the regular season with a doubleheader on Saturday, May 14 at 12:00 p.m. PT.
