KAHULUI, MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) - Makena State Park reopened Monday morning after an early morning salvage operation to fly out a grounded 19-foot vessel was completed.
The vessel ran aground on an inaccessible rocky point of the park shoreline between Big Beach and Little Beach in late April.
A salvage contractor was hired by the Department of Land and Natural Resources' Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation (DOBOR). The boat was secured with lines and then lifted by helicopter to a truck waiting in the Makena State Park parking lot.
The boat was then towed to the company's salvage yard for assessment and further disposal.
