KAILUA, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Incarcerated moms at the Women's Community Correctional Center and their children were brought together on Saturday for a special visit ahead of Mother's Day.
The Women's Community Correctional Center partnered with Keiki O Ka 'Aina to hold a Kid's Day, allowing the inmates to spend about three hours with their children, giving them a chance to take pictures, play games, sports and eating lunch together.
"Even behind these prison walls I'm able to be with my children. I know that everything is ok. I know it's a chance to do it right and be a mom to my kids again," said Genitra Gomes, a WCCC inmate.
Organizers say these types of visits help to mend relationships and stop the cycle of incarceration.
