HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - It took Punahou just three sets to earn their fifth consecutive Hawaii High School Athletic Association Boys Volleyball state Championship over Moanalua on Friday night.
The Buffanblu dominated early, taking the first two sets 25-20, and 20-17. Na Menehune made Punahou work for a win in the third. Moanalua, led by senior, Austin Matautia, held the lead for much of the third set. However a late run from the Buffanblu proved to be too much for Na Menehune, who fell in the third, 27-25.
Matautia led all players with 23 kills, followed by Punahou's Wil Stanley who earned 21 for the Buffanblu.
"It's just starting to sink in right now." said Punahou head coach, Rick Tune. "We were just in game mode until that final point, still kind of processing what five in a row means. Never in our wildest dreams did we think we'd be this consistent for this long. Every season starts fresh and new and we just go through this process every time."
