HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

The Big Island saw 190 house sales last month, and 82 condos. Island-wide, the median price for both was over $350,000. More than a third of the houses were sold in Puna, most under $200,000. More than half the condos were in Kona, most over $300,000. Kauai had 46 houses and 34 condos close in April. Most houses sold for more than $540,000 and the median condo price was $430,000.

Big Island hotels were only 58% full last week, two points below year-before and three points below week before. Maui and Kauai held steady at 78 and 66% full. Oahu was 81% full after two busier weeks.

Hawaiian Airlines flew 83% full in April – traffic up 11% on capacity up 3% - in a couple weeks the airline should fly its 4 millionth passenger of 2016.

The Kauai chapter of the Surfrider Foundation celebrates its tenth anniversary with a party this weekend – 6 p.m. Saturday at the Nawiliwili Yacht Club.

Happening today at Windward Mall – an invitation-only grand opening for a new children's play area – developed in concert with Kamehameha Schools. The theme: "Hawaii sea treasures." At 11 the private event ends and the public is welcome. The new play area is by Big City Diner.
