U.H. men's basketball team to celebrate season at banquet

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

The University of Hawai'i men's basketball team will celebrate its historic 2015-16 season with its annual awards banquet, Thursday, May 5 at the Hilton Hawaiian Village's Coral Ballroom. No host cocktails begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner and evening's program starting at 6:30 p.m.
 
Tickets are $150 each, while tables are also available for purchase. Order forms may be returned to the UH basketball office. For best seating, return the form by Friday, April 29. For more information, contact Bobbie Omoto at 956-6501.
 
Proceeds from the fundraiser will go towards summer school scholarships for men's basketball student-athletes.
 
The Rainbow Warriors completed arguably the best season in program history which included their first NCAA Tournament win with a 77-66 victory over California in a first round match-up in Spokane, Wash. UH captured its first Big West Conference regular season and tournament titles en route to a school-record 28 wins.

    Honolulu firefighters worked to extinguish a fire at an apartment building on Kapiolani Boulevard Monday evening.  The call came in around 6:30 p.m. HFD responded and all westbound lanes of Kapiolani boulevard prior to Date Street were closed.     A man who was on vacation from Canada died Monday after a fatal trip to the beach.  According to Maui fire officials, crews were called out to Ulua Beach just after 12:15 p.m. Monday.  There, bystanders were performing CPR on a 66-year-old man visiting from Saskatchewan Canada.  Despite revival efforts, officials said the man was pronounced dead at the scene.  He was reportedly scuba diving with a family member.
