HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Crews are shutting down lanes overnight on the H-1 Freeway between Kalihi and Kahala overnight this week to replace large overhead signage.

Lane closures are possible through Friday from 8:30 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.

State Department of Transportation officials say roving lane closures will take place along the H-1 from Ainakoa Avenue to Middle Street.

Drivers should be prepared to slow down and merge into a single lane as they navigate around the work crews. On- and off-ramp closures are also possible.

DOT crews did similar closures for sign replacement work recently on April 26 and April 27.

Officials said electronic message boards have been posted to inform motorists of the upcoming roadwork.

Emergency vehicles and TheBus have been notified and will be allowed through the work zone area. Special duty police officers will be on site to assist with ramp closures and escort vehicles. HDOT advises motorists to plan ahead, use alternate routes and drive with caution while getting to your destinations.

Roadwork updates will be distributed on the HDOT website and through its social media websites on Facebook and Twitter.
