HILO, BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Hawaii County Fire Department, along with U.S. Coast Guard on Tuesday rescued a man who was on a broken boat roughly 11 miles northeast of the Big Island.
Officials said the man used a marine radio to contact the Coast Guard to let rescuers know the 30-foot sailing vessel was disabled.
Crews rescued the man about 10 hours later. When they reached him, he said he had not eaten or drank anything for three days.
The man did not need any medical attention and was reported to be in good spirits.
