The 2016 HHSAA Girls' State Championship came down to a four-hole playoff between a pair of Punahou seniors at the Wailua Municipal Golf Course on Kauai. Heading into the competition, three-time state champion Mariel Galdiano looked to take her fourth consecutive crown, but teammate Allisen Corpuz wanted a state championship of her own before graduation. Following an impressive 2-under opening round, Corpuz lead Galdiano by two strokes coming into the second round which saw Galdiano turn in her own 2-under 70, forcing the teammates to a playoff. Neither gave in until the fourth playoff hole when Corpuz ousted Galdiano to take the state title. Led by these gifted golfers, Punahou took their 9th state title in 10 years.
This is the last time these teammates will battle it out in friendly fashion, however. Following graduation, Corpuz will continue her golfing career at USC while Galdiano will move on to UCLA.
