MAKUA BEACH, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A reef clean-up turned into a rescue mission for some good Samaritans last weekend.
Natalie Parra of Keiko Marine Conservation says she and another diver were cleaning up the reef off Makua Beach in west Oahu.
They were swimming with line cutters and bags to pick up fishing leads, trash and fishing lines on the reef when they spotted a honu tangled in fishing lines and snagged by a hook baited with tako.
Using a knife and a GoPro, the two divers were able to free the honu from the hook and line and get it all on camera.
The plan for their next reef clean-up is the Makai Pier in Waimanalo later this month.
