A family is heartbroken after their dog was shot and killed with an unknown weapon on Saturday morning in Ewa Beach.

Police have arrested Stone Douglas Tesuo Mabrey in connection to the crime. The 18-year-old faces a first degree cruelty to animals charge.

Mabrey has been released pending investigation.

Officials say despite dealing with cases like this for year, crimes like these never cease to disturb them.

"It's kind of shocking. It's kind of a reflection of how we treat our community is how we treat our animals, so its kinda of shocking when you come across these types of cases," said Harold Han, Field Services Manager for the Hawaii Humane Society.

If you witness or know of any animal cruelty cases, you are urged to call the The Hawaiian Humane Society at 356-2250
