OCEAN VIEW, BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A 46-year-old man died Monday after reports of a shooting in Ocean View, Big Island police said.

The man was identified has Jonathan Watson, of Ocean View.

Police said they received a call around 9:50 a.m. from a man who said he had been shot.

When authorities arrived to a home on Hukilau Drive, a man with a bandage on his leg came out of the house in an aggressive manner and started fighting with the officers. The officers, however, were able to apprehend him.

While some of the other responding officers went into the home to check for possible suspects or victims, Watson tried to kick the officers who were with him before becoming unresponsive.

Police and firefighters attempted to revive him, but he had to be taken to the Kona Community Hospital. He was later pronounced dead.

An autopsy has been ordered to determine Watson’s exact cause of death.
