Forecast: Breezy trade winds elevate surf for east shores

High pressure north of the state will keep a moderate trade wind flow in place through the week. The trades will weaken slightly over the weekend as a front passes by north of the islands.

Clouds and showers will focus over windward and mauka neighborhoods, although some showers may spread leeward nights and mornings.

Surf is expected to remain below advisory criteria along all shores. The forerunners from a small northwest swell have arrived at buoy 51101 located northwest of Kauai. This swell will spread down the island chain today and peak on Wednesday.

Small southwest and south swell energy will maintain background surf along south facing shores this week. Breezy trade winds will produce elevated rough surf along east facing shores.

Small Craft Advisory until 6 a.m. Wednesday for Maalaea Bay, Pailolo channel, Alenuihaha channel, Big Island leeward waters, Big Island southeast waters.
