HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A new special effect on Snapchat got a lot of buzz, but for all the wrong reasons.
The popular social media app created a new filter and released it to users on Wednesday. It put the Jamaican reggae singer Bob Marley's face on the user's face.
Many people spoke out against it online, calling it insensitive, and even saying it was a digital version of blackface.
Snapchat added the effect on 4-20, a day that's an unofficial holiday of sorts for marijuana smokers and supporters. Critics of the new filter also said it reduced the iconic artist to just being a "pot head".
The filter was removed on April 21, but it is not known if it was because of the negative feedback.
