HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The National Weather Service has issued a High Surf Advisory for most of the Hawaiian islands as a new northwest swell peaks on Wednesday.
The advisory, in effect until 6 a.m. Thursday, applies to north- and west-facing shores of Niihau and Kauai along with north-facing shores of Oahu, Molokai and Maui.
Forecasters said the swell will peak during the day into the evening, then will slowly subside in the late evening through Thursday.
Surf is expected to reach 12 to 15 feet along north and west shores of Kauai and Niihau, and north shores of Oahu, Molokai and Maui.
Expect strong breaking waves, shore break and strong longshore and rip currents that will make swimming difficult and dangerous.
