HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Hawaii News Now, Hawaii’s CBS / NBC affiliate, has won three regional Edward R. Murrow Awards for "Continuing Coverage", "Reporting: Hard News" and "Best Website" in Small Market Television presented by the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA).

This is the fifth consecutive year that Hawaii News Now has won in multiple categories and has garnered 17 total awards since 2010.

The RTDNA presents the Murrow Awards annually to recognize the best electronic journalism produced by radio, television, and online news organizations around the world. The regional Edward R. Murrow commendations automatically qualify the station for consideration for the organization's national awards. Hawaii News Now won the prestigious national Murrow Award for "Best Newscast" in 2012.

Hawaii News Now was recognized in the following categories:

Continuing Coverage: Homeless in Hawaii

The growing homeless problem was the number one issue Hawaii residents faced in 2015 especially in Honolulu. In the fall, Governor David Ige signed an emergency proclamation aimed at addressing the problem after a national study determined Hawaii had the highest per capita homeless population in the nation. Crackdowns on homeless in some neighborhoods pushed homeless individuals and families into fewer encampments which exploded in size and visibility. Hawaii News Now sought to fully document the crisis as it moved from a local problem to a statewide issue.

Reporting Hard News: Desperate for a Diagnosis

A Hawaii woman with an unexplained and shocking condition has suffered silently for years. 11 surgeries, 7 blood transfusions and doctor visits all over the country haven't helped. Her family spoke exclusively to Lynn Kawano about her medical mystery hoping someone can diagnose the bizarre condition and eventually find a cure.
