WAHIAWA, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A head-on collision in Waialua Sunday afternoon injured two people, Honolulu police said.

Police said 22-year-old, Kiana Smith-Simon from Wahiawa was traveling north on Kaukonahua Road around 12:30 p.m. when she lost control and hit another vehicle – driven by a 34-year-old man from Waipahu -- in the oncoming lane.

Both were treated by Emergency Medical Services personnel and transported to the Queen’s Medical Center. The man was released from the hospital, but the woman remains in critical condition as of Monday morning.

Police said speed appears to be a factor in the crash, but it’s unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved.

HPD closed both directions of Kaukonahua Road for traffic investigators. The road has since been reopened.
