HONOLULU (AP) - The Hawaii Legislature is planning a vote to replace the current acting state auditor with a new appointee.
The House and Senate announced Friday they'll vote to appoint a state auditor, ombudsman and director of the Legislative Reference Bureau.
Les Kondo is up for appointment as the new state auditor, according to a news release from legislative leaders. Kondo is head of the state Ethics Commission.
House Speaker Joseph Souki last year criticized the Ethics Commission's rules reining in gifts to lawmakers. If Kondo takes over as auditor he'll be a watchdog over the executive branch, not the Legislature.
Jan Yamane has been serving as acting auditor and could not immediately be reached for comment.
The appointees for ombudsman and Legislative Reference Bureau already serve in those or similar positions.
