No tsunami threat to Hawaii following 7.0 magnitude quake in Japan

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Another powerful earthquake has struck Japan, but there's no tsunami threat to Hawaii, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.

The earthquake, measured at a preliminary magnitude of 7.1, was located near Kumamoto and happened around 6:25 a.m. HST, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

Though there's no tsunami threat to Hawaii, the Japan Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami advisory in Japan as a result of the powerful temblor.

This quake comes just a day after another large earthquake hit the same area of Japan, killing several people and injuring hundreds.
