One of the good things about Hawaii is the generosity of our people and one of the best examples of that is the story of Mel and Lynn Tanioka.
They built a substantial and successful family business, Tanioka's Seafoods and Catering, with over 100 employees.
And now they are giving back, through the Tanioka's Charity Foundation. One of the prime beneficiaries has been the Kapiolani Children's Hospital, where Mel and Lynn's grandson was brought back to health.
The foundation has also helped other organizations schools and churches. In the future they also want to provide college scholarships.
Their annual fundraising dinner, called "An Evening of Hope" is next week. It's sold out, but you can still be part of the Tanioka's legacy by visiting their restaurant in Waipahu and dropping off a donation.
And while you're there, get something to eat. Their food is really good.
