HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - His family having held volleyball season tickets since he was a child, senior libero Kolby Kanetake says he's been to countless senior night events at the Stan Sheriff Center.
He'll forever remember his own ceremony as one that also celebrated a win.
Hawaii topped Cal Baptist in straight sets (26-24, 25-21, 25-20) on Saturday night to eliminate the Lancers from postseason contention. Hawaii will play at UCLA on Saturday in the first round of the MPSF Tournament.
"I don't know if it really matters too much, the wins and losses on senior night, but it just adds to the emotion and the appreciation for our fans and our seniors in this program," said Kanetake after the match.
Fellow senior Siki Zarcovic notched 9 kills in the match, and sparingly-featured senior Brandon Hiehle started the match on the floor for the 'Bows, who moved to 16-11 on the season.
"It really is special, and something that I'm just really humbled and grateful to be a part of," said Hawaii head volleyball coach Charlie Wade. "It's meaningful for not only the seniors, but also the other guys in our program."
