EAST HONOLULU, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A police pursuit ended in a dramatic arrest on Kalanianaole Highway on Saturday morning, with an officer drawing his gun on a suspected car thief in the middle of traffic.
Police were following the 16-year-old male suspect who was allegedly driving a stolen truck on Kalanianaole when he got stuck in construction traffic heading westbound.
The suspect struck seven cars by the time police caught up with him on foot.
That's when an officer drew his weapon and started yelling at the suspect to get out of the truck. The suspect did and was arrested for multiple offenses, including drug paraphernalia and possession of a replica gun.
Following the arrest, police closed the middle lane of Kalanianaole Highway fronting Kalani High School for several hours, spurring a traffic back-up that stretched all the way to Koko Marina Center. The lane was reopened by 12:30 p.m.
The case remains under investigation and the suspect remains in custody, pending investigation.
