PEARL CITY, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Honolulu firefighters on Tuesday rescued a 22-year-old woman who got lost hiking while hiking the Waimano Ridge trail the day before.
The Honolulu Fire Department said the woman, who is new to Hawaii, went hiking by herself around 3 p.m. on Monday, but called 911 around 7:45 p.m.
Rescuers made cell phone contact with the woman and determined she was about 5 miles from the trailhead. Due to the darkness, firefighters asked her to stay put until first light Tuesday morning.
A helicopter airlifted her to safety around 7:30 a.m.
