HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A man who says he accidentally lassoed a shark in Hawaiian waters is receiving praise for how he handled the situation.
Dave Freeman, a visitor from California, says he was free diving off the south shore of Oahu when he somehow ended up wrapping his line around a shark's body. Freeman says he didn't realize he had lassoed the shark until he tried to swim back to shore, but kept getting pulled back.
A short while later, he discovered the shark swimming near the ocean floor.
Instead of leaving the shark tangled in the line, he decided to pull it closer to him, carefully, until he was close enough to reach the shark and free it.
Freeman and the shark were unharmed.
