HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

The non-profit "Center for Tomorrow's Leaders" has a program for high school students. The aim is to get them involved in community projects while training them in leadership and communication skills. Hawaii News Now general manager Rick Blangiardi will be honored this year at the fundraising gala for his role in helping shape our future leaders.

Executive director Katie Chang and the student honoree Amber Kim appeared on Sunrise to talk about the benefits of the program. It's been around since 2013. Kim said that it gave her confidence that she didn't have before to lead others. While, Chang talked about the transformation you see in each of the students as they complete this program.

The general public is invited to attend the 2016 Center for Tomorrow's Leaders fundraising gala. It will be on April 6 at 5:30 pm at the Pacific Club. For more information or to buy tickets, visit centerfortomorrowsleaders.org or call (808) 681-7987.
