Driver indicted in fatal Waimanalo crash

WAIMANALO, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The 21-year-old driver accused in a fatal crash in Waimanalo turned herself in to authorities to face a negligent homicide charge, nearly a year after the incident.

Chanel Franco is suspected of texting before the crash that killed her passenger, 19-year-old Jessica Lum. According to police, the 2003 Honda Civic was traveling southeast on Hihimanu Street when the driver lost control of the speeding car, which veered off the road, hit a utility pole and spun 180 degrees.

Franco's bail is set at $11,000.
