University of Hawai'i senior outside hitter Sinisa Zarkovic was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation/Molten Player of the Week after leading the eighth-ranked Rainbow Warriors to a pair of wins over No. 14 UC Irvine over the weekend.
Zarkovic tallied 25 kills a piece in two five-set victories, eclipsing his previous career-high of 24. The Belgrade, Serbia native averaged 5.00 kills and 1.90 digs per set and hit .429 for the series. In the opener, he hit .340 and tallied six digs. In the rematch, he hit a remarkable .537 with only three errors in 41 swings. In that match, he also recorded 13 digs, posting his first double-double of the season and seventh of his career.
This is the third career MPSF weekly honor for Zarkovic, earning it twice as a freshman in 2013.
The senior is playing arguably the best volleyball in recent weeks. He has three 20-kill performances in his last four matches – all UH victories – and is averaging 4.82 kills per set, hitting .444. Zarkovic and the Rainbow Warriors hit the road for a pair of matches at UC Santa Barbara, April 1 and 2 in Santa Barbara, Calif.
