HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Board of Water Supply is warning the public about a new phone scam.
Officials said criminals are posing as BWS employees and threatening customers, saying their water will be turned off if they don't make a payment.
A number of BWS customers got such calls over the weekend and reported them to the board.
Anyone who gets unexpected or aggressive phone calls about their water service should call BWS at 748-5030.
In a news release, the board said it does not call customers to demand payments.
Also, all BWS are properly credentialed, wear official board uniforms with logos, drive BWS vehicles and carry a city badge.
