Former Turtle Bay pro Finau wins first PGA Tour event

Tony Finau wins 2016 Puerto Rico Open Tony Finau wins 2016 Puerto Rico Open
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Former Turtle Bay pro Tony Finau, the first golfer of Tongan or American Samoan ancestry to tee-off on the PGA Tour, won the first tournament of his career on Sunday at the Puerto Rico Open.

Finau, 26, shot twelve-under for the tournament but needed three playoff holes before finally besting Steve Marino for the title.

The Utah-native birdied the par-5 18th to win after missing a birdie putt on the same hole in regulation that would've won him the tournament without the need for a playoff.

Finau, by virtue of already being the first Tongan/Samoan to play on the PGA Tour, becomes the first person of either descent to win a PGA Tour event.
