WAIKIKI (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Hundreds gathered in Waikiki to celebrate Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalanianaole's birthday on Saturday.

Hula halau, Hawaiian civic clubs and other community members held a parade Saturday morning from Kalakaua Avenue to Kapi'olani Park.

A ho'olaule'a and ho'ike'ike allowed spectators to experience cultural arts such as lauhala weaving and kapa making.

"People from all over the island come to Waikiki to this event every year in March as we celebrate his life and it just overwhelms me with pride and aloha for our community and our visitors who come and enjoy things and really for the legacy of our prince," Hawaii Maoli, Maile Alau said.

Prince Kuhio was a politician in the Territory of Hawai'i and a delegate to U-S Congress.

He also founded the first Hawaiian Civic Club and led the passage of the Hawaiian Homes Commission Act.
