MOLOKAI (HawaiiNewsNow) - Maui firefighters on Molokai received reports of a brushfire at about 2:23 p.m. on Saturday in the Kaluakoi area.
Engine 9, Engine 4, and Engine 12 responded. Air 1 from Maui island was also called to assist as ground crews faced difficult terrain while attempting to gain access to the fire.
Light winds allowed fire crews to get initial knockdown of the fire just as Air 1 arrived on scene.
At 4:30 p.m., the fire was officially declared contained with crews remaining on scene to put out hot spots and work toward completing extinguishment.
It is estimated that approximately 5 acres of light brush and kiawe has burned. There were no threats to homes and no injuries to report. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
