HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - They certainly went the long way about it, but the Rainbow Warriors are headed to the postseason.
Hawaii's come-from-behind win over the Anteaters of U.C. Irvine on Saturday night clinched the team a spot in the eight-squad MPSF playoffs. Hawaii has just four regular-season matches remaining, including two at the Stan Sheriff Center.
As did Friday's match, the second showdown between the two schools went five sets, but Irvine put the pressure on Hawaii early; the Anteaters went up 2-0 to open play before Hawaii won three straight to secure the win.
A night after senior Siki Zarcovic notched 25 kills, he was outdone on the offensive end by Stijn van Tilburgh. The Flying Dutchman put home 27 against the Anteaters on Saturday.
Hawaii plays a pair of matches on the road against U.C. Santa Barbara this weekend before returning to the Stan Sheriff Center on April 8.
