The Hawaii Foodbank is gearing up for its 27th annual food drive, and says need is higher than ever.

The nonprofit has 14 days worth of food on hand, about half the idea amount said food bank President and Chief Executive Officer Gerald Shintaku.

The food bank will collect donations at eight locations on Oahu on April 16.

Shintaku said the food bank will serve about 287,000 people this year.

"That’s one in five people who require the foodbank," he said. "The food drive will not only help us beef up our food supply, but in monitoring supply. We actually buy more food today than we ever had in the past to supplement what we need to donate"

The food bank also needs about 2,000 volunteers for the drive.
