Entertainment: Alfred Apaka, HAPA Road Trip, Mana Maoli Crowdfunding, Kapena Spring Break

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Beautiful unmistakeable baritone voice, it would have been Alfred Apaka?s 97th Birthday this past Saturday.  Jeffrey Apaka posted his dad?s album over the weekend and we have some video.  Alfred Apaka performed with big band?s and his own band from before WWII and afterwards.  He would perform on Bob Hopes shows, Bing Crosby?s TV and radio and The Ed Sullivan Show.  Henry Kaiser who would build Hawaii Kai and the Hilton Hawaiian Village, built the Tapa Showroom exclusively for Alfred Apaka.  A regular on the Hawaii Calls radio show, he would leave this planet at the young age of 40…but many still love and remember his music

Lots of Happy Birthday wishes for Barry Flanagan, original member of Na Hoku Hanohano Award winning group Hapa.  They spent the weekend on the road...That was apparent when we saw this on Kapono Na?ili?ili?s FB page…that?s Barry?s partner in the group HAPA….He posted "I have to be honest.. I will out pack ANYONE, anytime, anywhere. #goinghome"

Mana Maoli is a nonprofit that operates the Mana Maoli Music Program called Mana Mele; thousands have reaped the benefits of their program resulting in major gains in college and career readiness and cultural grounding.  They are doing a crowdfunding online for and gaining partners but they need funding.  Mana Mele:  They also filmed in our Hawaii News Now Studios

The Kapena family is on spring break....this photo from Instagram was taken at Rockefellar Plaza:  Kelly Boy Delima in the chair from "The Voice" with Lilo singing right behind him!
