HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Honolulu was ranked the sixth most congested city in the United States, according to a new analysis from navigation company Tom Tom.

According to the ranking, congestion in Honolulu means drivers spend 29 percent more time in traffic on average, compared to the amount of time they would have spent commuting if the roadways weren’t jam-packed.

During the evening peak, drivers spend 62 percent more time in traffic. During the morning rush, Honolulu drivers spend 52 percent more time in traffic.

According to the analysis, Honolulu did slightly better in 2016 than the year before.

Los Angeles was ranked the most congested city in the United States. Drivers there spend 40 percent more time in traffic on average because of congestion. San Francisco was ranked no. 2, and New York rounded out the top three.

Tom Tom also released a ranking of traffic in cities worldwide. In that ranking, Honolulu came in 54th.

So where can the world’s worst congestion be found? According to Tom Tom, that would be Mexico City.
