HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Flood advisories have been issued on Tuesday as heavy rain impacts parts of the state, according to the National Weather Service.
A Flood Advisory has been issued for Windward Oahu until 3:15 p.m. At around 12:15 p.m., radar showed heavy showers over Kailua to Waikane, with rainfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour. Locations in the advisory include, but are not limited to Kaneohe, Maunawili, Waimanalo, Hauula, Kahuku, Laie, Waikane and Waiahole.
A Flood Advisory is also in effect for Lanai until 3:45 p.m. At around 12:50 p.m., radar showed heavy rainfall, with rainfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour, over southeastern Lanai. Locations in the advisory include, but are not limited to Lanai City, Koele, Shipwreck Beach and Lanai Airport.
NWS also issued a special weather statement that said localized heavy showers and a few thunderstorms will develop by the early afternoon. This will occur mainly over interior and mauka areas.
Localized flooding could occur in low-lying and poor drainage areas, the NWS added.
Forecasters recommend that hikers be extra cautious in and near streams.
