WAIANAE, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A new 25,000 square-foot police substation in Waianae and is set to open in May.
The brand-new facility will replace the old substation, which was only 7,000 square feet. There will also be 14 holding cells instead of just three. Officers will also have access to gas pumps on-site.
It's been two years since the old station was knocked down, forcing residents to drive more than 11 miles to the Kapolei station.
"They can come right here when they want to file a report or need help," said Mayor Kirk Caldwell, during a tour of the new substation Monday.
The new building, which cost more than $16 million, will open in May.
