We wanted to introduce you to a couple of guests today. This is Diego. He is the Red Cross animal of the year. He's here with his handler Judith Fong.
Diego volunteers at Tripler, Queen's Medical Center, Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children and the Senior Community.
Diego is an 8-year-old shitzu chihuahua. Also known as a chi-chi. The personality that he has is perfect for visiting patients because he'll go and allow anyone to touch him, he's very friendly.
It was the temperament of Diego that was attractive to several therapy organizations and I was asked if I would be interested.
About five years ago I started at the Red Cross and it's really been a wonderful experience. I benefit from it by seeing everyone's smiles, seeing the veterans, and senior living center.
It must have been quite an honor for you as his handler knowing that he's the animal of the year.
It was actually quite a surprise, just a blessing for me. I started doing that to give myself respite while taking care of my mom and mother-in-law.
We want to say thank you to you and Diego, who's very talkative, unusually talkative.
This is your Red Cross Hero of the year, Diego and handler, Judith Fong.
