KAPOLEI, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A vehicle fire caused by a crash sparked a brush fire Tuesday afternoon near the H-1 Freeway by the Campbell Industrial Park off-ramp, according to authorities.
More than 20 firefighters rushed to the scene around 5:30 p.m. where they discovered that the vehicle fire spread to some nearby brush due to strong winds. The fire burned approximately two acres, but no structures were threatened, the Honolulu Fire Department said.
Honolulu police closed a westbound lane of the H-1 and the westbound on-ramp so firefighters could put out the flames. The fire was fully extinguished by 7 p.m.
The occupants of both vehicles involved in the crash were not injured, authorities said.
No other damages or injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
