HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Hawaii recording artist and slack key master Cyril Pahinui continues to recover from surgery in critical condition at the Queen's Medical Center.

Cyril underwent surgery for 2.5 hours yesterday afternoon.  This is his third procedure in four days, which has been taxing on his system.

Chell Pahinui, Cyril's wife reports his "vitals are stable and he is oxygenating well. They are working to stabilize as he begins healing." His doctors said it's still going to be tough for him, but they reached the goals needed in this operation.

The Pahinui family has asked fans and friends to hold off on bringing lei and flowers to Queen's -- they are not allowed in ICU and may not be helpful for Cyril as his lungs heal.

They are asking fans instead to purchase T-shirts for the upcoming Gabby Pahinui Waimanalo Kanikapila on April 23, 2016.  The family is using the event as a goal for Cyril to get better. Cyril said he hopes to be at the event next month.
