HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Island Air today commemorated the return of interisland air service to Kauai with a blessing of its new check-in counter and celebration of its inaugural Honolulu-Lihue flights.
The event included remarks by Kauai Mayor Bernard P. Carvalho, Jr.; Kauai County Council Chair Mel Rapozo; Kaulana Finn, representing Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard; and Island Air President and CEO Les Murashige.
Passengers on the inaugural flights were greeted with lei and hula performances by keiki from Halau Ka Lei Mokihana o Leina'ala.
Starting today, Island Air restored service to the island of Kaua'i with six daily round-trip flights between Honolulu and Lihu'e, with connections to Kahului.
Effective April 1, Island Air will increase Honolulu and Lihu'e service as follows:
Friday to Sunday – eight daily round-trip flights
Monday – seven daily round-trip flights
Tuesday – Thursday – six daily round trip flights
In addition to increasing seat capacity to Kaua'i, Island Air has hired 27 employees on Kaua'i and O'ahu to service the Honolulu-Lihu'e route.
