Molokai Middle School’s Robotics Team has advanced to a competition on the mainland after receiving the highest honor in last month’s state tournament.

Team 434, placed in the top seven out of the best 39 teams in the state at the HCES State Middle School VEX IQ Championship.  The team took home the tournament’s highest honor, the Excellence Award, advancing them to the 2016 Vex IQ Worlds Competition.

The team is excited at the chance to represent their school in the international competition and is asking for donations to help make their trip to Worlds possible.

“On this island because we’re a small island, to me everybody is family and we all care about each other.  So to have our islands’ support in having us go to Worlds is something that is very important to me,” said Kaluhea, a member of Team 434.

The competition will be held in Louisville, Kentucky from April 20-23. The team has raised $1,842 and wish to reach their goal of $16,000 by April 17.
