HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Rainbow Wahine basketball team is going dancing.
A year after falling in the Big West tournament final and being denied a shot at the NCAA tournament, Hawaii found redemption against U.C. Davis on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Aggies 78-59 to advance to the 'Big Dance' for the first time since the 1997-1998 season.
Senior Ashleigh Karaitiana made the most of her second shot at a Big West title game; the sixth-year senior scored 17 points, including a 5-8 from deep, to lead the Wahine in victory.
Brianna Harris added 13 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists for the 'Bows, who also got 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting from Megan Huff.
Morgan Bertsch scored 19 points for the Aggies, who upset top-seeded U.C. Riverside on Friday to advance to the title game.
As champions of the Big West conference tournament, the Wahine are guaranteed a spot in the NCAA tournament. The opening-round match-ups of the women's tournament will be announced during a special televised event on Monday afternoon.
