UH softball falls to NDSU 4-1

The University of Hawai`i softball team (12-13, 0-0 Big West) fell to North Dakota State, 4-1 on the third day of the Outrigger Spring Fling Tournament. Rachel Lack launched her fourth home run of the season for UH's lone run while Brittany Hitchcock took the loss, dropping her record to 4-6 on Friday night at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
 
The Bison jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, with Logan Moreland scoring on a wild pitch in the top of the first inning.
 
NDSU added two more runs in the top of the fourth. Moreland looped a double behind  third base to start the inning. Cheyenne Garcia followed with an RBI-single up the middle and then Alyssa Reina reached on a fielding error on the shortstop which allowed Garcia to score to give the Bison a 3-0 lead.
 
In the top of the seventh, NDSU's Jackie Stifter reached on a double to the left-centerfield gap. She later scored on a wild pitch to extend their lead to 4-1.
 
Hawai'i's Rachel Lack launched a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh for UH's only run of the game. It marked the 12th home run of her career.

For Hitchcock, it was her first appearance in the circle since Feb. 28 when she  threw four innings against Utah Valley. On Friday night, she allowed three runs on three hits with a strike out. Kanani Aina Cabrales threw the final three innings, allowing just one run on one hit with a walk and three strike outs.
 
NDSU's Jacquelyn Sertic earned the win to raise her record to 9-4. She fired a two-hitter allowing just one run with a walk and seven strike outs.
 
Hawai'i will conclude the tourney on Saturday with a doubleheader. UH will face No. 21 Baylor at 12:00 pm and then North Dakota State at 2:00 pm.
