MAALAEA, MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) - A 33-year-old man was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of attempted murder on Maui.
Maui police said the suspect, Justin Shepherd, allegedly tried to strike his 38-year-old girlfriend and her 13-year-old daughter with his vehicle at Haycraft Park in Maalaea around 6:20 p.m.
When police arrived, they found Shepherd still in the vehicle. When he noticed the officers, he drove his vehicle into one of the officer's vehicle, authorities said.
Officers were able to subdue the suspect and apprehend him. He was charged with three counts of first-degree attempted murder, two counts of second-degree attempted murder, first-degree criminal property damage, first-degree terroristic threatening, operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant, reckless driving and driving without a valid driver's license.
His bail has been set at $1 million.
There were no injuries, police said.
